Vietnam accounts for 7% segment of the U.S. imported seafood market
According to the Vietnam Association for Seafood Exporting and Processing (VASEP), 2012, the U.S. seafood imports increased sharply in the first months of the year, but by the end of the year tends to decline significantly due to increased aquaculture domestic production, inventory, and the standing price.
From January to December 2012, the U.S. has imported 2.22 million tons of seafood, worth more than USD 15.2 billion, increase of 1% compared to the same period in 2011. Estimates, seafood imports in 2012 of the U.S. reached $ 16.8 billion, up 1 percent from 2012.
The U.S. imports seafood from 130 countries around the world. Vietnam ranks fifth after China, Canada, Thailand and Indonesia. Vietnam accounts for nearly 7% of the market value of seafood imports in the U.S. market, and more than 8% market share in terms of volume. China accounted for 16% and 22.5%; Thailand accounted for 12.3% in both value and volume, Indonesia accounted for 7.1% and 5.5%. /.
